Sarah Philipp: “The SPD can be saved and it is needed”

In the traditionally red Ruhr region, the AfD is on a par with the Social Democrats in many places. The chairwoman of the NRW SPD wants to turn the low point of the federal election into a turning point.

Ms. Philipp, the SPD is sinking to ever new historic lows. Can your party still be saved?

Absolutely! Even if there is no getting around it: the result of the federal election is a low point. But we will make this low point a turning point. The SPD can be saved and it is needed. We have to make it clear what we stand for, who we are making politics for. That did not work in this federal election campaign. That was the big problem.
